Truck or Car? The Ultimate Showdown
By:Angela Garcia
When you went to the dealership for the first time, which vehicle style caught your eye? Was it a car, or a truck? It all really depends on what you need it for. Which vehicle best fits your lifestyle? For some, the reason they need to get one is for their work, roads that they travel on and so forth. Others might just need it for going to school or cruising through town. Today I will be talking about the pros and cons of owning a truck and owning a car.
Cars are often the better choice for people who need a vehicle to get around town. Whether it's work or just getting to school. The best part of owning a car is how easy it is to drive. They accelerate faster because they weigh less. It is also easier to park in smaller spaces. For example when you’re trying to find a parking spot at the store, you’re more likely to fit into a tighter spot than you would from driving a truck. From experience, filling up my gas tank for a car is much more pleasant than doing it for a truck, especially a diesel. Today I spent $90.04 on a tank of unleaded gas for my truck. My sister, on the other hand, filled up her car with $38 dollars. Have you seen the price difference? Rate Genius states, “a new mid-size truck costs an average of $41,868, whereas new mid-size car prices are $31,370, on average.” Maintenance should also be a factor for you when you’re deciding. It can be the little things like oil changes, brakes, or even mirrors that will save you money with a car.
Trucks are going to be a better fit for you if you live in a bumpier area or if you need something to haul things or carry heavy equipment. Many business owners need a bigger sized vehicle because they would never fit a huge item in a small car. Landscapers, construction workers, and even movers rely on trucks to get their equipment around different job sites. Even people who love to travel use trucks because they can tow their trailers, boats or even their RVs for weekends for vacations. Trucks are also better in the sense of having a larger family. Trucks usually hold six while cars hold five. They also have more leg room and storage to place items if needed. Another great thing about trucks is the cost of insurance. Camera source states, “ it costs 15 percent less to insure a new pickup truck than a new car” this is a great thing to take into consideration as well.
I feel as though I have a strong connection to both. I happen to own a show truck that I take to the race track throughout the year. It has a V8 Engine and all sorts of modifications I made to it. I have had it for about two years and after calculating my costs I have spent over 15,000 dollars. This is something I’m proud of because it's become a part of who I am. I have spent countless hours doing things to that truck. However, I also have a car. That car has a v6 engine and it costs way less than the truck. For example, the difference in gas prices alone for the two is fifty dollars. Oil changes are a twenty dollar price difference. The rims and tires were 2000 dollar price difference. My car helps me with smaller tasks like going to school or going to work, but it’s more comfortable and affordable when I don’t need the power of my truck .To me I prefer my truck because it's fast and flashy. If it was about affordability I would choose my car.
In conclusion, cars and trucks each have their own strengths and their own weaknesses. Cars are better for fuel, comfort, and affordability, making them ideal for city driving and everyday use. Trucks offer power, space, and off-roading capability, which is great for work and outdoor use. No option is perfect for everyone, but knowing what your personal needs are will help you make the right decision. Whether you choose a car, or a truck, picking the right vehicle is about more than just what looks cool. It’s about what works best for your daily life. So next time you’re going to the dealership, ask yourself again what do I really need this vehicle for?
